EMILY: I am going to Europe, Richard. I am going to Europe, and I’m going to have a marvellous time. I’m going to get up at 10:00, and I’m going to have two glasses of wine at lunch every single day.
The aftermath of Luke and Lorelai kissing and Rory and Dean having sex unfolds and Rory gets an offer to travel with Emily.
Rory finds the perfect song for her and Dean while they replay the steps from the previous episode. I actually like that they started it that way and recounted the steps to catch everyone up. Then we go to Emily and Richard who have what I would call my favourite fight of the series. I mean, they had me laughing so much over a seemingly ridiculous argument. Kirk saw Luke and Lorelai kissing and mentions it in front of Sookie who pulls Luke aside and has the cutest reaction to it.
Dean and Lindsay have a fight because she answered his phone and he is just being an a-class asshole to her. Rory is in a great mood the next morning and Sookie wants to talk to Lorelai about kissing Luke. Lorelai wants to talk to Rory but she is having none of it. Lorelai at this point should have tried being supportive of Rory and taking the adultery out of the conversation for a moment. Though Rory did need the tough love too. One of Michel’s dogs are Taylor’s shoes and Kirk thinks it was him during the night. Dean and Rory have sex again at Miss Patty’s and Rory tells Lane about the sex while the band waits for her. Lane is being completely supportive but reminds Rory that Lorelai would be more help in this situation, but Rory doesn’t want to go to her.
Lorelai, Rory and Emily have a quiet lunch where Emily tells them that she and Richard are separated. Lorelai just responds ‘and?’ when she hears it. At this point, Lorelai (and Rory) should have maybe had an ounce of empathy for Emily. These girls are not on their game today. Emily offers for Rory to come to Europe with her and Lorelai thinks it is a good idea. Rory agrees to go and tells Lorelai it is to get away from her. Rory goes off to Europe and barely says goodbye to Lorelai. At least Emily is completely oblivious to their fight and is beyond excited. Luke leaves Lorelai three hundred answering machine messages, she calls him and we see the beginnings of Lorelai and Luke: The early years.
Richard and Emily. Just Richard and Emily.
